Another race, another disappointing result...

"Personally I am feeling back to myself on the bike. I have good form and am here to do well. I felt so well today that I covered pretty much every attack during the race. I actually made a very strong move one third into the race that I thought I’d be able to ride to the finish. However, with the wind, the riders behind cooperated well enough to organize and bring me back. I jumped like 400 more times with everything that went ahead until finally the move with Blake went. As the peloton rolled steady, I did not notice that the efforts I had done previously demanded that I drink more. The pace was so easy that I only realized I was short on water when I cramped on the last climb. I guess it’s a little of a double-edged sword the situation I’m in. I need to show my team that I am in form in the race, but in the process of doing it I didn’t focus on managing the heat well enough. One way or another, no one went up the road besides us, like the first day, and in the same we ended up winning the stage. Maybe I might be able to just pull something off too! We’ll just have to wait and see!"

Well, Tom, we waited. And I've got to say I'm disappointed. Again. 19th overall in GC in a domestic race with probably more climbing than any other is hardly the result we'd expect from a tour de france caliber rider. Maybe a little less time at RPG's would help your climbing. Or, the 400 attacks you put in during a 3.5hr stage probably didn't help either. Thats almost 2 attacks per minute! Its time for a change. Less burritos and less attacking. I'll make it simple: less burritos + less attacks = better results.

Come on, Tom. The stars and stripes are on the line in Greenville. HTFU.

Hell, if you set goals like this, you may end up getting somewhere in your career. Its too late for Beijing, but maybe London 2012 could be within reach. Take these words of wisdom from the Wattage Cottage:

Before Cascade:
"Right now, for Cascade, Mount Evans and the Tour of Utah, my objective is to connect that central nervous system and turn what I have been doing in training and put it into races," he said. "I am really determined. I do have a new appreciation for the sport. I am disappointed that I am not going to the Tour to France, I don't really think it was a good decision on anyone's part, but I am going to accept it and use it as motivation. I have some great races, and I would like to win just anything right now."
